A RAGGED LIFE
(October 20, 1998)
In a ragged inn, a ragged fellow was caught
What unkindness of fate he longed had thought?
And deep within a harbored dream
A clearer view is yet unseen
In merriment of fancy hope
A fancy face with hopeless look
In his desire of big and great
He tugged the rope of time with haste
Along the path he walked alone
With wit and might he thought he got it all
The crown and fame at last at hand
Till all seemed follow from his commands
He lavished on profanity spent his life in vanity
From evening parties to festive weddings
To costly travels and endless cheering
The elegant mansions he stepped into
The rugged taverns he reached them too
All those desire of life and time
The truest sense was yet unrhymed
For in his heart he still could find
A countless query of a weary mind
The whys and hows since he began
Are purely there and still undone
BRILLIANT FOOLS
(January 15, 1999, Irosin Sorsogon)
When Samuel’s Tom whitewashed the fence – faces he painted with laughter
And as Emily held her pen – a deep life’s sorrow was revealed
When young Keats honored beauty – he indeed honored the Grecian Urn
While Milton found blinded – a paradise was lost yet it was regained
At time came when Poe rushed for words - it was then, We saw him drinking
While armies bade their farewell – We found Hemingway standing
And as Shakespeare laid Juliet & Romeo dying – lovers caught mourning
When Marx published a book – working men stood fighting
At tender age Byron and Shelley had crafted words
While Ireland’s James Joyce at 40 had just finished Ulysses
As Marlowe’s heart grew fonder, Ernest Henley’s spirit rose higher
And don’t let it be forgotten we’ve got two Winston Churchills
O fount of literary wisdom, for us thou gave
These great fellows of the olden days
Their pens, their hearts, their peculiar id
Long hath been buried but not their wit
For in this world of fools and wise
Some hearts doth ache for Charles & Grimes
The likes of Shaw, Ralph and Jane
These brilliant fools who caught our hearts
Who taught it love and kept it young…???
THIS TOO SHALL PASS AWAY
(June 17, 1999, San Pedro Laguna)
As I carry the load
That seems so eternal
The weight is felt
Right up my head
And down my spine
To this my earnest plea,
To keep me strong and keep my faith
And help me believe
That this too shall pass away.
THE CARNIVAL OF LIFE
(June 17, 1999, San Pedro Laguna)
Along the carnival of life
We are to tread softly
Feeling young
Though youth has gone away
Laying down chagrin emotions
And sometimes tossing up amiability above
Trading tears and laughter
Together we celebrate the carnival of everyday
We’re all cast adrift
Boarding wrecked craft
Swiftly racing down an many directions
All wants to have a place
Some follow mine, from which I follow someone else’s
Some hurry for new traces, while some take their own
Together we perform the carnival of everyday
One by one some crafts reach the shore, including mine
Some are left halfway but sure to come in due time
Others are thrown away
Many are carried by the rage of waves and miss the solid grip
So now they’re forever asleep across the deepest sea
Together we accept our fate in the carnival of everyday
The one’s who reach the shore
Are sure to rejoice
And those who bade goodnight across the deepest sea
Will cry out their songs of agony
Sunsets and evening stars will sing in harmony
Ending the painful and bitter memory
And at daybreak only a few celebrates the carnival of grand new day
UNTITLED
(June 18, 1999, San Pedro Laguna)
It’s a little I know about the world
And little I can share
It’s a little I take from what I should get
And a little I find to what I seek
Ditties & Promises
(JUNE 24, 1999)
You’re unheard if you ceased to speak,
Though flowers bloom, in due time they wither.
Lovers whisper in darkness, of undying promises
And at daytime, they’re found in tears
Promises vanish as darkness passes
Simple ditties and rhymes
Truly bring solace
But melodies do come to an end
Though wounded hearts do heal
Scar is left and tears are remembered
You lofty lovers, oh! Try to conceal;
Offer not roses, to which thorns are unknown,
For oft are you elated and at the brink you reveal
So rather give presents to which thorns are reborn
Cause heart acknowledges things, which are real.
WILD NORTHWIND
(May 5, 2001)
O wild north wind as you soars
Bring me back my breath again
Oh! Can we all expect a hopeful waiting?
But, oh! Only time can tell
Its endless soaring in ageless spaces
Can it turn its face to a speck of being?
Oh! No it wouldn’t do
but partly, I sigh and pray
Oh! Please make it so
For all those times and times forgotten by…
Can’t it turn, turn, and turn right
To perfectly meet the pathways
To where it passed before –
To the east from the west
To the north from the south
To which ever way
To wherever it may be
To the east to the west
To the north to the south
To which ever way –
To wherever it may be
It just turns, turns, turns
Round and round circling our dials
Until it settles deep – deep
Deep down to a heart that learns
The art of loving and believing
That soon the north wind cast its magic spell
A gift of wise living…
ON WALKING
(March 28, 2005)
The night said to the young man,
“Tread the road with smile upon your lips
for the sun will make it beam
and your breath will make it fresh.
Greet the nature with that glowing smile
And let your breath for every human kind.
For neither your smiles nor your breath
be wasted into nothingness
for like a man who keeps singing to the vine
with sublime hope that someday the vines
will sing back to him in due time.”
We thank God for Summer Bliss
(August 12, 2007, Sharjah, UAE)
Summer wind blows on hills far different as it does on valleys
Yet both feels the warmth as it touches gently on solid grounds
Near below or far above season feels its tenderness
From its resless distant travels sweet summer aroma abounds
In ageless seasons it circles our time
From our first breath until we reach our prime
Land may dry up when its kisses thrive
Yet many times in between it intensifies our smile
For us who have curled up in winter
Will sure to miss its magic spell
But nonetheless at least we find
A waiting room for its arriv’l
For all the summer which had gone
And for all those that will sure come
We thank the Mighty Creator for the taste of summer bliss
And the hope of cuddling again its profound warm embrace!
WE NEVER STOP TO SING
(August 15, 2007 )
If life is a piece of song and your heart is a melody
And just like the lyrics which tell some happy or sad story
If life is a freedom battle that cries out so tight
And your heart is a soldier dying to fight
And if life is a meeting place in which we must wait
Round the man with his promise which strengthen our faith
Where we pray until dawn with our sighs and our strides
And we heave all the minutes with our eager desires
In ones life there’s a music of sweet refrain
And the other piece we hear, song of constant pain
Yet with all the refrains and the pains
We never stop to sing
Our music lives and fades
Just like our hopes and dreams
But someday we will all be singing
Great tune of heavenly hymns
